Frequently asked questions.

What is the World Food Auction?

The World Food Auction is a global fundraising campaign, organised by Hawksmoor, Purpose Union, and The Auction Collective, where restaurants and food-related organsiations auction experiences, meals, or special items to raise funds for hunger relief charities as part of World Food Day (16 October).

How do we take part?
  1. Decide what you'd like to auction.
  2. Select a charity working to end hunger.
  3. Run your auction using Indy.auction, a product of The Auction Collective.
  4. Your auction will be promoted in the World Food Auction marketing campaign.
  5. Winning bidders pay directly to your Stripe or PayPal account so you can personally make the donation to your chosen charity.
What can we auction?

Anything you like – a special meal, behind-the-scenes experience, chef’s table, a year’s worth of free desserts… be creative. The more unique, the better.

Can we choose our own charity?

Yes. You're free to select any registered charity that supports hunger relief, food insecurity, or related causes — local or global.

To cover the running costs of the campaign, The Auction Collective are donating 50% of the platform fee to Action Against Hunger, the World Food Programme, and Hackney Food Bank. You are welcome to do the same, or to select a suitable charity of your own.

When should our auction start and end?

Auctions can run anytime between 6–17 October 2025, with World Food Day on 16 October as the campaign’s focal point.

How long should our auction last?

We recommend 7–14 days for maximum exposure, but it’s up to you. You choose your own auction start and end times.

What does it cost to take part?

Nothing - There is a 9% auction platform fee, which covers the cost of running the auction, but you can pass this on to the winning bidder when setting up your auction. This will make it completely free for you to take part. There are no other costs.

How do winning bidders pay?

Winning bidders pay through your auction page once the auction has finished.

Payments go directly to your Stripe or PayPal account. You then donate the proceeds to your chosen charity.

Will we get help setting our auction up?

Yes. We’ll provide step-by-step guidance, demo examples, and marketing templates to help you set everything up smoothly.

Will our restaurant be promoted?

Yes! Your auction will appear on the official World Food Auction page and be featured in our campaign marketing and press outreach.

Can we include more than one auction lot? Absolutely — you can offer multiple lots (e.g. different experiences or dates), all under your own branding.
